What Equipment ?
For ordinary country walking it is not necessary to purchase expensive equipment however the following notes may prove useful.
- Walking boots should be reasonably strong, not too heavy and preferably woollen, rather than cotton socks.
- Clothing should be comfortable, light weight with more substantial clothing in Winter.
- Refreshments including hot/cold drink essential for lunch breaks which are nearly always taken outdoors.
- Walk Leaders will carry appropriate maps & compass.
- Walking poles can be useful for slippery terrain as well as when going up and down hill.
- Finally a rucksack is the best way to carry loose items leaving hands free.
General Information
Length of walks:
A Walk 10+ miles
B Walk 8 - 10 miles
C Walk 5.5 - 7 miles
D Walk approximately 4 miles (no stiles)
- The meeting point for all regular walks is the start point on the programme.
- Coach Walk pick up point will be from Lees.
- Sorry, no dogs are allowed on Club walks.
- Please make sure that you are fit enough to undertake the walk you intend to join. If you are unsure of your fitness level, try a short walk first: it's much better to find a walk a little too slow and easy before trying a longer walk.
- Leaders are responsible for their group.
- Leaders may refuse to accept participants who, in their opinion, are inadequately equipped or unfit.
- For your own and others' safety, please read and abide by any advice and guidelines issued by the Club and the instructions of the walk leader.
- Although walking is inherently one of the safest outdoor activities, no activity is completely without risk and it is your responsibility to minimise the potential for accidents to occur. Please be aware personal injuries or accidents are not covered by Club insurance.
- Do not get too far in front of the leader. Anyone who loses touch in this way will be considered to have left the walk and no longer be the responsibility of the leader or the Club. If you do get separated from the main party, stay put. If for any reason you wish to leave the walk please let the leader know.
- It is strongly recommended that all members carry a list of their medical information with them. This will only be given to emergency services if required. In Summer a tick remover is recommended.
